Construction of the largest solar park in Sweden has begun

Kungsåra PV park in the Västerås municipality will be 22 MW and is one of two projects of in total 69 MW that Helios Nordic Energy AB has developed for the German investor Commerz Real. Helios has developed the project in its entirety and will now manage the construction until commercial operation date, which is planned for Q2 2023. Helios will then manage the PV park for its entire operation period.

During the summer, the work in the PV park has begun in earnest. The land preparation of the former Salix cultivation and a smaller forested area is almost ready. Gravel roads and a turnaround have been built to facilitate the construction and future maintenance of the PV park.

The piling works will begin early September and during the same month, the first PV modules will be installed. It will be really fun to se the project realized. The main construction period is only 4-5 months. The transformer stations and grid connection are what take a bit longer”, says Erik Edström, project coordinator for the PV park. The AC cables to transport the high voltage electricity is already in the ground and waiting to be used by the 22 MW PV park.

Kungsåra PV park will be put into operation at a time when southern Sweden have a great need for new electricity production. The park will produce electricity corresponding to the needs of more than 9 000 electric cars.
Building solar parks is one of the quickest and most cost efficient ways to add new production of renewable energy, even as the local environmental impact is very limited.

Helios is planning to launch projects corresponding to hundreds of MW in the coming years.
